Our vision is to care for children in a “home away from home” environment that is nurturing, safe and loving. To effectively provide age appropriate developmental stimulation and education for all children entrusted to our care.

To encourage a love of learning in a stimulating environment where each child can be encouraged to reach their full potential, using age appropriate developmental activities that stimulate the five senses.To work hand in hand with the parents who are ultimately the primary caregivers, to achieve the best possible developmental outcomes for all children.To be the Educare centre of choice in our community.

Alpha Step is a child centered Educare situated in Walmer where diversity is embraced and every child enjoys learning and play in a safe and nurturing environment.

We strive to meet all the pre-school child’s developmental needs; physical, social, emotional and cognitive. (Cognitive skills are thinking skills – mental tools that enable us to learn and operate effectively, with them we are able to learn and do most of what life demands of us).

We are open during school holidays but closed on public holidays and Dept. of Education declared “school holiday” days. Please view the days relevant to the current year on the calendar.

ALPHA STEP Pre Primary

We are a feeder school to the schools in our geographical area. This includes Clarendon. Disclaimer: All schools that claim to be the “only” feeder pre primary  to Clarendon cannot guarantee your childs acceptance. Clarendon and the other schools in the area have their own very specific entrance criteria.

  • English Medium
  • Educational programme for 3 – 6 year olds (Award winning Grade R!)Our pupils have gone on to excel in Grade 1.
  • Developmental stimulation programme in place for the Tots & Toddlers. 12 to 36 months.
  • Grade 000/Grade 00/Grade (0)R (CAPS curriculum)
  • No child will be allowed to enter Grade 000 if not completely toilet trained.
  • Experienced and qualified teachers / Child caregivers
  • Lunch and afternoon snack provided for children booked in for after care.
  • Computer lessons included for Grade 00 & Grade R pupils
  • Various private extra mural activities (Parents enter into an agreement with the service provider)
  • Parents arrange transport to and from school

School Times:

  • Open : 06h45 – 13h00 (Arrival and free play from 07h00 until 07h55)
  • 1/2 day children need to be collected by 13h15
  • After Care: 13h15 – 17h30 Monday to Thursday
  • 17h15 (Fridays)

After Care: For children from Grade 1 – 3

  • After school care until  17h30 Monday – Thursday / Friday 17h15

Holiday Care: For children from Grade 1 – 3

  • 07h00 to 13h00  Or 17h15
